A group of bikers from Howden have taken part in a memorial ride to honour the late Hairy Bikers star, Dave Myers.
The motorcycle enthusiasts took part in the charity ride on Sunday, April 7, which was organised by Biker Escorts East Yorkshire to pay tribute to the celebrity chef who sadly died from cancer earlier this year, whilst also raising money for Cancer Research. After setting off from the Co-op car park in Howden, the local group joined the main ride in Beverley, where there were thought to be over 6,000 other bikers. The convoy travelled the two-and-a-half-hour route to Scarborough passing through towns including Scagglethorpe and Pickering. Mark Rodger was one of the Howden bikers who took part in the ride and said: “Along the entire route everyone from toddlers to the elderly were out waving, cheering and applauding, it was quite emotional at times, a special day in memory of a special fella.” Dave and his partner Si King, rose to fame in the early 2,000’s with their popular television shows and cookery books which incorporated the pairs’ love of both cooking and motorbikes. In a post on the Hairy Bikers Facebook page ahead of the ride, Si wished the bikers well saying: “I hope the ride out goes well for you all. Many many thanks for remembering Dave in this way. He would have loved it. Dave’s family, friends and I are really touched. Love to you all, be safe.”
